FASTER RECOVERY, METABOLISM, AND CELL REJUVENATION

KAATSU is a training method that is based on blood flow moderation exercises involving compression of the vasculature proximal to the exercising muscles. The application of pressure can be done while sitting or while moving, and is unique in that it causes both slow and fast-twitch muscles to become fatigued at equal rates, a scenario which is otherwise impossible unless one extremely exerts themselves. The effects are significant, quickly obtained and can be obtained by using no weights or exercise equipment.  KAATSU is safely used by Olympic gold medalists and professional athletes, and by individuals as old as 104.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you describe a Cryotherapy session?

Before beginning a cryotherapy session, the cryo-user will remove all jewelry from the neck down, change into dry socks, slippers, gloves, and a robe provided by the operator.

Then, the cryosauna operator will return to the room and pre-cool the octagon before you step in to start the session. Once instructed to step inside the cryosauna, the operator will close the door and you will hand your robe over the top of the cryosauna to the operator.

Next, the operator will hit the “start” button and you will then begin to feel the cold, dry, nitrogen vapor surrounding you, lowering your skin surface temperature to 32°F. The brain reacts to the skin sensors by stimulating the regulatory functions of the body.

Throughout the 2-3 minutes, the operator will remain in the room and talk to you to keep your mind off of the chill. You will be instructed to rotate in the cryosauna at your own pace while keeping your chin up, to allow even distribution of the nitrogen vapor.

You may hear a beeping sound about every 30 seconds. This beeping sound is the cryosauna safety feature alerting the operator to click the “okay” button to ensure the session is still occurring. If the operator does not hit this “okay” button the safety mechanism will be triggered and the cryosauna will shut off.

Before you know it, the cryo session is over! The operator will hand you your robe, take your skin temperature, and then exit the room so that you can change back into your clothing.

Is Cryotherapy safe?

Yes. No severe adverse reactions have been recorded over the last 30 years with proper cryotherapy use. Clients must be completely dry, as water will freeze immediately at these temperatures. The nitrogen being used to cool these chambers is the same nitrogen that makes up about 78% of the air we breathe. You don’t want to breathe liquid nitrogen for extended periods of time, as this can lead to oxygen deficiency. The operator will raise the platform you stand on so that your head remains above the heavier nitrogen vapors and you can breathe fresh air. In order to protect the more temperature sensitive areas such as your hands and feet, clients are required to wear dry socks, slippers, and gloves, which we provide.

Do I have to wear anything specifically?

No jewelry can be worn below the neck. You will only be wearing socks, slippers and gloves, which will be provided and men also wear briefs. This allows for approximately 90% of your skin to be exposed to the extremely cool air.

Can I catch a cold?

No. During your 2-3 minutes session, the stimulation of the immune system can actually help decrease the severity and frequency of future colds.

Are there health precautions?

Cryotherapy is very well tolerated and has minimal risks. Protective clothing (socks, gloves, undergarments) must be dry in order to avoid frostbite. Fluctuations in blood pressure may occur during the procedure by up to 10 points systolically and reverse after the procedure as peripheral circulation returns to normal.

Additional health precautions: Allergic reaction to extreme cold (rare), Claustrophobia, Anxiety Activation of viral conditions (cold sores, etc.) due to immune system stimulation

What if I’m claustrophobic?

Your head remains outside of the cryosauna at all times. You are always in control of your experience and can choose to end your session at any time.

Is there anyone who shouldn’t do cryotherapy?

The following conditions are contraindicated for cryotherapy: Pregnancy, Severe uncontrolled hypertension (BP> 180/100) Acute or recent myocardial infarction (heart attack within 6 months) Narrowing of valves, Crescent-shaped aorta and mitral valve, Unstable angina pectoris, Arrhythmias, Symptomatic cardiovascular disease, Cardiac pacemaker, Peripheral arterial occlusive disease,Venous thrombosis, Acute or recent cerebrovascular accident (stroke: must be cleared for exercise), Uncontrolled seizures, Raynaud's syndrome, Fever, Tumor disease, Symptomatic lung disorders, Bleeding disorders, Severe anemia, Infection, Claustrophobia, Cold allergy, Acute kidney and urinary tract diseases, Incontinence, Age less than 18 years (parental consent required).
